The Wounded Masculine

The term masculine I am referring to is the male/sun qualities within each gender. In using it I am not making reference to gender. The masculine qualities are the acting/doing qualities in both men and women. The masculine quality is the seed or idea that is planted in the soil/womb of the feminine. Our masculine quality is our acting out or manifesting ideas in the world that have been created in the feminine. In Jungian psychology, the masculine aspect of the psyche is the animus. The wounded masculine aspect in our culture and world is evidenced in an abuse of power. It is the male aspect that feels it is not strong enough and so it overcompensates by being aggressive, filled with bravado, and disrespectful of the viewpoint and boundaries of others (think Clinton/Lewinsky). Create Your Future

It was a time when I seriously needed to create something new. A mentor of mine recommended a book by Barbara Sher, entitled "Wishcraft". There was an exercise in the book that changed my life that was all about picturing the world that you wanted to live in. For the first time in years, I gave myself permission to envision the life I would like to live. At the time, I was in the process of leaving a very unhappy marriage and had lost hope that a good life was even possible. The exercise was simple. It involved imagining in detail your day from start to finish. The more details one could imagine, the more potent the exercise could be. So, I did just that, I dreamed of what my life could look life if it didn't have all of the limitations I was currently experiencing. I detailed my house, my wardrobe, my job, and my relationships. Survival Guide For Hard Times

The last several months have been challenging ones, not only personally but for the world. How do you make it through difficult times and come out on top of things instead of under a trash heap. I have been through many difficult times in my life as I’m sure most people can relate to. But these times seem particularly trying in that there are so many other people struggling as well. It seems so universal in its scope. But this is not totally new; it is just that we haven’t seen things this hard for quite some time. But our ancestors and maybe even our parents or grandparents remember when things were not rosy and everyone had to pull together in order to survive. What is different now is that it seems our sense of separation and competition has grown. We don’t have the sense of community that we once did.
